Privacy Policy

Effective date: 7 August 2026 · Last updated: 12 August 2026 · Version 1.3
Summary: Sol Weather stores all your data locally on your device. We collect no personal information and do not track your behaviour. Its network requests are read-only calls for publicly available weather, price, air quality and blockchain data, plus one anonymous usage count sent to an endpoint of ours — an event name and nothing else, switchable off in Settings (section 4a). The one exception is the optional Pro purchase, which your own wallet signs and submits to the public Solana blockchain (section 7a).

1. Data Controller

Sol Weather is developed and maintained by an independent developer operating under Australian law.

For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the data controller is the developer identified above. If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom and have questions about data protection, please contact us at the email address above.

2. What Data Sol Weather Collects

Sol Weather is designed with a privacy-first, local-only architecture. All data you enter or that the App stores — your locations, units, display choices and wallet details — remains exclusively on your device in app-private storage (Android SharedPreferences and EncryptedSharedPreferences). None of it is transmitted anywhere.

The one thing the App sends to an endpoint of ours is an anonymous, aggregate usage count, described in full in section 4a. It carries an event name and nothing else, and can be switched off in Settings > Privacy > Anonymous analytics.

2.1 Data stored locally on your device

2.2 Location permissions (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION & ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION)

Sol Weather requests Android location permissions for two distinct purposes:

2.2.1 Weather data retrieval (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION)

Sol Weather uses precise GPS coordinates to fetch accurate weather forecasts, hourly and daily predictions, air quality index (AQI) data, and sunrise/sunset times for your current location. This permission:

Legal basis (GDPR): Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — you explicitly grant location permission through the Android permission prompt, and you can revoke this permission at any time through Android Settings.

2.2.2 Sanctions screening (ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION)

Sol Weather also uses coarse location data for regulatory compliance — specifically to detect whether the device is located in a jurisdiction subject to international sanctions. This usage:

Legal basis (GDPR): Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) — compliance with international sanctions law. We have conducted a balancing test and determined that the compelling legal obligation to screen for sanctioned regions outweighs the minimal privacy intrusion of a single on-device coarse location check that is never stored or transmitted.

2.3 Data we do NOT collect

3. No Server-Side Data Storage

Sol Weather does not operate any backend server, database or cloud storage that holds your data. The single endpoint we do run, described in section 4a, stores nothing but anonymous per-country, per-day counts of event names, and has no way to receive, store or process anything about you. All of your data exists exclusively in your device's app-private storage and is inaccessible to other applications.

4. Third-Party API Calls

Sol Weather makes read-only API requests to the following third-party services to retrieve publicly available data. These requests are HTTPS-encrypted and no user-specific data is included in the requests except where noted:

ServiceEndpointData retrievedUser data sent
Open-Meteoapi.open-meteo.comCurrent conditions, hourly/daily forecasts, sunrise/sunsetGPS coordinates*
OpenWeatherMapapi.openweathermap.orgWeather data (fallback path present in the App but not currently enabled — no API key is shipped, so this host is not contacted)None

Raydium APIapi-v3.raydium.ioSOL and SKR token prices (fallback)None
CoinGecko APIapi.coingecko.comPrices and 24-hour change data (fallback)None
Solana RPCapi.mainnet-beta.solana.comWallet SOL balance and Seeker Genesis Token (SGT) ownershipWallet public address**

* Your GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude) are sent to weather API endpoints to retrieve location-specific weather data. This occurs only when you have granted location permission. Coordinates are numerical values that identify a geographic point but do not directly identify you as an individual. The legal basis for this processing is your explicit consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

** Your Solana wallet public address is sent to the Solana RPC endpoint only when you have opted in by signing in with your wallet. Wallet public addresses are publicly visible on the Solana blockchain and are not generally considered personal information, though GDPR may classify pseudonymous identifiers as personal data. The legal basis for this processing is your explicit consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

Note on IP addresses: When Sol Weather makes HTTP requests to the above APIs, your device's IP address is inherently transmitted as part of the network protocol. This is standard for all internet-connected applications. We do not control how these third-party services handle IP addresses — please refer to their respective privacy policies.

4a. Anonymous Analytics

Sol Weather sends anonymous, aggregate usage counts to a single endpoint we operate, solweather-analytics.vercel.app. We use them to see which features are actually used and roughly where the App is used, so we know what to improve.

What is sent. The entire request body is one event name, for example {"event_type":"forecast_viewed"}. That is the whole payload. It contains no coordinates, no city or location name, no temperature or forecast, no wallet address, no balance, no device or advertising identifier, no install id, no session id and no user id.

What is derived. Our host records the request's approximate country (derived by the hosting provider from the connection) and the date, and keeps a running count per event name, per country, per day. IP addresses are not stored. Because the request carries no identifier, the counts cannot be tied to you, to your device, or to each other — two events from one phone are indistinguishable from two events from two phones.

How to switch it off. Settings > Privacy > Anonymous analytics. While it is off, the App sends nothing to this endpoint at all. No feature of the App depends on it.

Legal basis (GDPR). Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) in understanding aggregate product usage. The data is anonymous rather than pseudonymous — it carries no identifier that could single you out, so it is not personal data within the meaning of Art. 4(1). The off switch is provided regardless.

Retention. Aggregate counts are kept indefinitely, since they describe events rather than people. No raw request log is retained.

5. Mobile Wallet Adapter (MWA)

Wallet sign-in uses Solana's Mobile Wallet Adapter protocol, which operates entirely locally between Sol Weather and your wallet app on the same device via Android inter-process communication. During the MWA sign-in process:

6. Data Security

We implement the following security measures to protect locally stored data:

7. Data Retention and Deletion

All data is stored locally on your device and is retained until you explicitly delete it. You can delete all Sol Weather data at any time by:

Android Auto Backup. The App participates in Android’s Auto Backup, so your settings, saved locations and Pro unlock can be restored if you reinstall. Backups go to your own Google account, not to us — we never see them and cannot read them. Two things are deliberately excluded and are never backed up: the wallet preferences file (sol_weather_wallet.xml), which holds your wallet address, and the transient weather cache. With Auto Backup off, uninstalling deletes everything the App stored, and a Pro unlock is recovered from the blockchain instead (see section 7a).

Since none of your data is stored on our side, deletion from your device constitutes complete deletion. The anonymous counts in section 4a contain no identifier of any kind, so there is nothing in them that could be traced back to you, retrieved or erased on request; the off switch in Settings stops any further counts.

7a. Purchases and On-Chain Payments

Sol Weather Pro is an optional one-time unlock. Current conditions and the forecast are never behind it.

We never take custody and never see a payment instrument. When you choose to pay, the App builds a Solana transaction and hands it to your own wallet app to approve and submit. We receive no card details, no bank details, no seed phrase and no private key — those never leave your wallet. No payment processor of ours is involved, because there isn’t one.

What becomes public, permanently. A Solana transaction is recorded on a public blockchain. Your wallet address, the amount, the destination address and the timestamp are permanently public and are not something we can delete, redact or amend on request — no one can, including us. This is a property of public blockchains, not a policy choice. Please treat paying as an irreversible public disclosure of that information.

App identification. Every Sol Weather payment includes a fixed, public reference account (G3mJZfPUVSXSALHgMFbEr7mWPMbGfLavKj8yCC6gCeLy) that marks the transaction as belonging to Sol Weather rather than another of our apps. It is a constant, identical for every user — it identifies the app, never you, and carries no information about you.

Restoring a purchase. “Restore Purchase” checks this device first (see Auto Backup above), which needs no wallet and no network. Only if that finds nothing does the App read your connected wallet’s public transaction history from a public Solana RPC endpoint, looking for a payment carrying the reference above. That read is anonymous, signs nothing and moves no funds.

8. International Data Transfers

Sol Weather transfers no personal data to us. The anonymous event counts in section 4a are handled by our hosting provider (Vercel) and may be processed in the United States; they contain no personal data to transfer. When Sol Weather makes API calls to third-party services (see Section 4), those requests may likewise be routed through servers outside your country of residence, including in the United States and Europe.

For users in the EEA or UK: these API calls are limited to fetching publicly available weather and price data, and where you have consented, querying your location for weather forecasts and your wallet's public balance. We rely on the derogation under Article 49(1)(a) GDPR (explicit consent for location-based weather queries and wallet balance queries) and Article 49(1)(c) (necessary for the performance of the contract for weather and price data retrieval).

9. Your Rights

9.1 European Economic Area & United Kingdom (GDPR / UK GDPR)

If you are located in the EEA or UK, you have the following rights under the GDPR:

9.2 Australia (Privacy Act 1988)

Under the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), you have the right to:

9.3 California, USA (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

9.4 Japan (Act on Protection of Personal Information — APPI)

If you are located in Japan, you have the right to request disclosure, correction, cessation of use, and deletion of your personal information. All data is stored locally on your device and can be deleted by clearing app data or uninstalling. For inquiries, please contact us at the email address in Section 1.

9.5 South Korea (Personal Information Protection Act — PIPA)

If you are located in South Korea, you have the right to:

All data is stored locally on your device. The personal information protection officer for this application can be contacted at aardappvark@proton.me.

10. Children's Privacy

Sol Weather is not directed at, marketed to, or intended for use by children under the age of 16 (or 13 in jurisdictions where that threshold applies, including the United States under COPPA). We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has provided data to the app, the data exists only on that child's device and can be removed by clearing app data or uninstalling the app.

11. Automated Decision-Making

Sol Weather performs one automated decision: sanctions region screening at app startup, and again before each background home-screen widget refresh. If your device is detected in a sanctioned jurisdiction, the app displays an informational screen explaining the restriction. This automated decision is based on legitimate interest in regulatory compliance (GDPR Art. 22(2)(b)) and does not produce legal effects beyond restricting access to the app's informational features. You may contact us to contest this decision.

12. Data Protection Impact Assessment

We have conducted an internal assessment of our data processing activities and determined that a formal Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) under GDPR Art. 35 is not required because:

13. Do Not Track

Sol Weather builds no profile of any user and performs no cross-site or cross-app tracking, so a Do Not Track signal has nothing to switch off. The one thing you can switch off is our anonymous analytics, in Settings > Privacy > Anonymous analytics.

14. Local Storage Disclosure (ePrivacy)

For the purposes of the EU ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC) and its national implementations: Sol Weather stores configuration data on your device using Android SharedPreferences and EncryptedSharedPreferences. This storage is strictly necessary for the functioning of the application (exempted from consent requirements under Art. 5(3)) and does not involve any tracking, profiling, or advertising functionality. No identifier is stored for analytics purposes: the counts in section 4a are sent without one.

15. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will:

Continued use of Sol Weather after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

16. Contact

For any privacy-related questions, concerns, or to exercise your data subject rights, please contact:

We aim to respond to all privacy inquiries within 30 days.

17. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of Australia, without regard to conflict of law principles. This does not affect your statutory rights under the laws of your country of residence, including rights under GDPR (for EEA/UK residents), CCPA/CPRA (for California residents), or other applicable local privacy laws.
